Random Thoughts

DVD is back on this Wendsday night. And I have some good material for this blog. Hope y'all enjoy.

"Salvation Army Standards"

We've all seen them. In there santa hats, red aprons, and the all so noticeable jingling bells.

But its the story behind the bells that you should hear before you put that quarter in there jar.

Before the jingle bell bergade starts ringing there bell they first get hired to do such a thing. So. I ask the question. If he (or she) is getting paid to ring that bell, dont you think he (or she) should have to put up with some kind of problems like the rest of us do? (the rest of us meaning the average employer who has to deal with a boss and co workers) But DVD, what problems could you add to such a job? well for starters how about they deal with the weather and not cheat and hide inside the building, and how about they accomidate there situation to make the set up more appealing? In my own opinion, the best way to make money for this cause is to gain respect and some pity points from the donor. Again, in my opinion. If I see a worker out in a snow storm standing out by his jar post ringing his bell. Im going to first respect the person for dealing with the situation, and second pull some change or dollars from my pocket. My desire to give is less when the one who is reminding to give isnt setting a high bar standard. "But DvD, its cold out there, and you shouldn't base your desire to give on the employee". I'm sorry, I've had to deal with angry bosses, with angry customers, with the cold sometimes in the mix. Oh, did I mention with screaming, crying, annoying children? The cold is an simply element to a job to get over. Its called a warm coat and layers, a beanie hat, thick gloves, thick socks, and snow shoes. See? done. your warm. Trust me, ive worked in it many many times. Oh, and that thing about giving, I don't see why my desire to give should be more then the person working there. Am I wrong? probably. But hey, wouldn't be the first time.

"Lets go old skool"

This thought is a thought I've had for some time. There is one thing in any society that runs it, controls it, can manipulate it and its people. What is this thing? Money. The thing that makes most people get up and go through 40 hours of hell. The thing that 3rd world countries lack and the reason why there still 3rd world countries, the reason why I cant have a new car. The reason why you go through more education then you really need. Money. When you break it down. Its a piece of paper/coin with a symbol. But in reality its really the most greedful thing the world has seen since saurons ring (LotR). And in most 1st world countries like the US and Canada money has lost all form of physical appearance and has become just a number on a screen. You think that Micheal Jordan actually saw his 4 million dollars he made a year? nope. All he saw was a big A number on his bank statement. Then there are those inside society who cant find a job, who cant survive all because of this piece of paper. So I have a suggestion that the rich will not like to hear. "lets go old skool". And by old skool i mean very old skool (yes I realize skool is spelled school) What do I mean by this? Get rid of money. It holds no real value but to raise a few and destroy many. Let society go back to its roots where you survived based on talent and skill through hard work. Rather than through a 40 hours work week at a dead end job. Lets get society going in the right way, everyone supports themselves through there talents and skill, and being a model is not a skill, its a eating disorder. Where are the butchers? the Bakers? the candlestick makers? Use your skill to use as trade to survive. "But what about those who have no skill, they wont survive" Dont worry, we have those in our society today as well, but there more well known as prostitutes, homeless, drug dealers, Paris Hilton, Hilary Clinton, Barrack Obama, and Ann...never mind. Again I ask, am I wrong? Tiger woods probably agrees with me. But in the end, were probably both wrong. (I know he is)

The most classful thing you'll read all week

Hello dear readers. It is I. And I am well aware I am late putting this post up, but here it is. I am proud to say that I attended the Amazing BYU v Utah Football game this year. And like always it was another classic. If you didnt hear (and you should of) BYU won the game in OT thanks to a perfect throw by max hall, and terrible tackling by utah. This was HUGE. It was amazing. I lost my voice in the excitement. BUT, Max Hall decided to speak some fighting words that he will never live down. "I dont like Utah, in fact I hate them. I hate everything about them." "I think the whole university, there fans, and organization is classless". Now. I believe Max has every right to say this. I believe Max hall spoke his mind and the minds of 90% of all BYU fans. The only issue I and probably everyone else has with this is the time and place. Sure if you want to "tweet" or facebook, or even just talk about it with your friends and family thats good and great. But saying that on tv right after the game completely takes away from what you and the team just accomplished. You just worked your butt off to let BYU fans everywhere the right to rub it in to them utes for another year, but no one cares or talks about that now. All we hear about is what mr. hall said and how he is a hypocrite in saying so.

But there is still hope BYU fans. Max hall has exactly one game left with the school then he's gone. So there will be no hangover next year when BYU heads up north to the U. I promise you if I hear a ute fan use the classless argument next year I will snap. BYU didnt come out and say it or back it up. Neither did any of the coaches or players. So if you hate max. Hate him. His football career is over. He doesnt have the skill to play in the NFL. He just better hope his next employer isnt a football fan. Or a Ute fan atleast.

There is one little problem BYU has now though, Max is gone. And you now have to find his replacement. I think Riley Nelson from Utah State gets the job for next year while we build a new leader for the team. We will have a good running game again with Unga still around. And the defense will have another year under there belts. Overall it should be a good year. But if your looking for a 10-2 year, you might want to take a few steps back and look at the competition one more time. Utah and TCU will be there to knock us down. And our out of conference schedule isnt easy. Nevada at home will be a good game. And we have to travel too FSU and to USU. I failed to mention home vs washington because well, it better be a easy W. If BYU pulls a 8-4 or a 9-3 year I will be very pleased. But 10 wins with this schedule will be a hard task.

I hope from reading this you realize some things you may of not known. 1. BYU still won the game. 2. Max hall isnt coming back next year. 3. Dont speak your mind on Tv or radio. It ends bad.

the big game and the honest truth

Well its that time of the year again here in the state of Utah. Its time for the rebel utes of the north come down to utah county to face my slacking cougars of everywhere that matters. So it comes down to the final game. Winner goes (most likely) to the Las Vegas Bowl to face the pac-10 team of the bcs's choosing. BYU has struggled at home. Losing both of there two losses there. First to Florida state where the defense just didnt show up and the offense wasnt in sync. And the other to the insanly good tcu horn frogs. The game wasnt even close. But either was utah's shot at them either. I want to predict the outcome as unbias as i possibly can. So hear goes my attempt.

Utahs Pros:

average 176 yds a game (41st in ncaa)

Have found an every down back in Wide after Asiata went down.

Have 15th ranked defense. (176 yds per game)

Utah Cons:

have no major passing attack. between both jordan wynn and terrance cain they've only got 17 td's this year.

Avg 230 passing yards (58th in ncaa) and 398 total yards (51st in ncaa)

There starting a 19 year old freshman in provo. he's shown he has pressure problems

Utah's two losses have come on the road. Just so happens so is this game.

BYU's Pro's

avg 453 yds a game (10th in ncaa)

avg 311 passing yards (11th in ncaa)

max hall is number one in every passing category in the MWC and is in the top 10 in nation.

the've got more to play for. BYU is a long shot from being a BCS at large bid. But its still a shot.

BYU is playing for there 200th win at home (and who doesnt want that)

BYU's Con's

BYU hasnt won back to back games at home to utah since 1989/1991

BYU is 3-17 against ranked foes since 1998.

BYU has lost both of its "Must win" games at home this year

BYU is 57th running the ball in the nation

Max Hall has never thrown for 300 yards against the U

Max Hall has never thrown a TD pass against the U in his two past tries. But has thrown 6 INT's

So. Both teams have there upside and both have there down side. First I call that Max gets his first TD pass this year against utah.

After looking at both teams and there history. I really think this is going to be another close classic. Both teams are playing at a high level and both are going to have many emotions going into this game. But when its all said and done. I like Byu 24-21. Byu will come off strong and fade in the middle. Utah is going to hold there ground but the 4th qtr will be there down fall.

Am I wrong? I hope not. But if anything I hope you atleast learned some info about both teams so you atleast can pretend you know what your talking about.

power of music

"Music is so powerful that it affects even our physical beings. Who hasn’t had the experience of tapping his toe to a certain song—without even realizing he was tapping until after the fact? Many ancient peoples recognized the power of music on the body, and some used music as a healing agent. In many mythologies, the god of music is also the god of medicine.

In recent years, studies have substantiated these ancient ideas, demonstrating music’s effect on a myriad of bodily functions: pulse rate, respiration rate, blood pressure, galvanic skin responses, brain-wave impulses, muscle responses, finger coordination, and reading speed and comprehension. 1 One study suggests that certain rhythms actually have a weakening effect on the muscles of the body. 2

A force so powerful that it can influence our hearts, our glands, and our muscles is a force to be reckoned with. The influence is significant enough that we should take care what kind of music we allow into our homes.

Music also has great power on our emotions. Music has been called the universal language because it speaks directly to our emotions. And our emotions and feelings influence our actions.

The power music has to communicate feelings was made dramatically clear to me while I was writing the musical score for the film Where the Red Fern Grows. While working on that project, I encountered a serious problem: the entire story was built around a boy’s love for his dogs, but that love wasn’t being communicated through the film itself. I composed a tender love theme to fill that void, and suddenly flat images on strips of celluloid had emotional life. The audience wept." - Lex de Azevedo

I must say I truly agree with this statement. Music is the power and strength in my life. When I am mad, I have the song that can either release the anger or to calm the spirit. When Im sad my music is there to bring up my mood. I always have a song in my head, I cant survive without a constant beat. Its like a addiction. Of course anyone who has ever been around me has seen me have a air drum beat or a air guitar going once in awhile. might look bad, or even bug some people (which i know it does), but i live for the rush of a drum beat or an insane guitar riff.

There are people out there that are what society calls "adrenaline junkies". These people live for the next rush, wether it be from driving 100 mph, skydiving, getting in bar fights, backcountry skiing, etc. Well I am one. Only I get my rush from concerts. Not just any concerts, but rock/metal concerts. Why you may ask? Because these concerts come with what we call "mosh pits" and if you want to experience a rush, this is how. You mix a angry song that gets you jumping and riled up then get in a constantly moving pit with a bunch of guys who cant wait to bash into you. yeah. its a blast. Most of my favorite concerts had one, although i wasnt always there to participate (thanks slikity). If I had to rate my concert top 5 id have to go as follows:

5. saliva. (with red, flyleaf, victim effect)

4. the offspring (with madina lake, mury, avenged sevenfold, street dogs, aireborne toxic event)

3. trans Siberian orchestra

2. Metallica (with the sword)

1. LINKIN PARK (with coheed and cambria)

Top 5 bands i would pay any amount to see

5. nightwish

4. metallica (again)

3. linkin park (again)

2. van halen (eddie would melt my face with his guitar i know it)

1. led zepplin (i'd be walking the stairway to heaven after the concert im sure, but well worth it)

as you can see. Im A: addicted to music B: really bored at my moms house and C: well there isnt a c, but if there was im sure it would be worth writing.

I hope after reading this all of you (and im sure theres a ton) (that was a joke), will finally understand why i tap my hands and my feet. and will let music take you to places your physical body cant. Music can touch your soul, and can be the best thing that ever happened to you. Please let music in. It wont bite. It wants to show you the way. Where? To places you can't even imagine. If I had a second religion. It would hands down be music.

Thank you for your time. I hope you day was changed for the better from this blog entry. Have a good day. And let the music be with you.

The curious case of DVD

Im back loyal readers. And if theres more than 1 of you then I will be very suprised. I am back on this very snowy october day to let you into to life of a radio host and my feeling on 3 on 3 basketball.

Oh the joys of being a dj on the radio. As fun as it I must say it does take more effort than one would imagine. If I being a listener would say, "that job cant be hard, all you do is listen to music for a few hours" how true and wrong you are dear person. Its true that I get to listen to music for a few hours a week and get 2 credits doing so. BUT. I also put alot more work into those credits than just that. First off I do sports update once a week, which detail, preparing a script, recording it properly, adding the final touches, and moving it over to the live computer to be played over the air. I also have to listen to you call in horrible music. After awhile it kills me. I can only handle so many jonas brothers and brittany spears before I go insane. Oh and did I mention I have to stand the whole two hours im on air? well i do. And its no fun. So yes. the life of a radio dj is fun, but there is much more put into it then many of you assume.

I have discovered the secret to 3 on 3 basketball. And the results may suprise you. Have a big tall kid to play down low. a medium kid to set the picks and run around. and a little kid with a big ego to shoot balls 3 ft from the 3pt line. I know this because I just played this team. And let me tell you it pissed me off. If your good. Thats awsome. Good for you to put the effort in. But when you show off by taking rediculosly long shots in the middle of the game I draw a line. So what do I do. I guard the loser get in his face, use my elbow to push him back when he drives and hope it ends badly for him. Well it did. Because he decides to take his anger out of being driven outside by using me as target practice with the basketball after he shoves me. lol. Lets just say I might be the strongets kid, but you make me mad and my mein dont back down instincts kick in. And if it wasnt for a teammate I would probably of been kicked out of the league. Im not saying I have no fault or blame. All Im saying is play a good game. No one wants to play kids who think there the next kobe or lebron. Its no fun for anyone.

School update: I still am amazing at bowling. I still suck at spanish. History of England is moving slower than I hoped. Water aerobics is too wet for the winter. PE is a waste of my money. Radio is the best thing snow has to offer. period.

Side news: Im finally learning new songs on the guitar. Im going dark side. That is Im trading in my Xbox 360 and getting a PS3. I know, Im sad too.

My summer

I've sided to step back and talk about my past summer. And what an adventure it was. This summer I was so blessed by having my former boss offer me a job for the summer time without even trying. Which is funny in itself because they way we saw eachother was kind of unexpected. It was the beginning of the summer and I was jobless and bored. So what does a jobless bored person do? Fish. Sadly the only real option is Salem Pond if you dont have a boat or the desire to drive a good distance. So I was set to go fishing. But in order to do so I needed a new license and some little side items. Well what better place to buy your fishing stuff then from the store you used to work at right? So I went back to Big 5 in SF and got what I needed. Now the managment is all new from when I worked here so I didnt know anyone, but I brought up to the lady if she had seen my old boss jesse. She said I ya I have, in fact he is coming down here today to help. I couldnt pass up the opportunity of bugging the guy who used to make me straighten and fix shelves all day long. So I came back later that day and after a chat he told me they needed help up in orem. So I went up the next day applyed and was instantly accepted with a raise. Talk about luck. And if you cant guess thats where I spent a good portion of the summer. Until of coarse I spent my time in canada. Which a whole story in itself. The best part about this past summer (and you only got a very small glimpse) was that I got the vision of where I want to go in life. I now have a purpose for what Im doing. And I hope Im doing it well. So yes. Summer was a good fun time. Probably more drama then I had hoped for, but in the end it turned out for the best.

My story.

Well well. Here we are. I dont know where to begin. I was born in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Lived in Cardston, Canada for a few years with my family before we moved to Sacramento, California for about a year. Which led to us moving back to Cardston. Not long after my mother got kidney failure and due to marriage issues divorced my father and moved to Utah to be with her moms side of the family and to have better heath care (yes obama, the grass is greener here. Dont burn it.). Well my sister and I moved down with my mom. I was about 5 and my sister was about 3. I went to aspen elementary school in Lindon Utah and let me tell you I have more memorys there then Id ever expect. Due to money issues my mom moved around the orem utah area 4 times before finding her new/current husband. Leading me to move to Provo Utah and in the end to Spanish Fork. Spanish Fork, the town where my life truly began. Thankfully, moving hasnt been an issue for the past 10 years. After choosing my education over a mission I decided to go to Snow College. This decison was probably one of the hardest I have ever made. But I know inside I made the right choice. Whether or not people agree with me has no bearing with me, I know I chose the path I was ment to take. And I have no regret in doing so. After going through a life changing year, I am now settled in Ephraim Utah going through my 3rd semester at Snow College. And although its hard, expensive, and at times very boring. I love it to death.

My goal now is to let you know how things go from here on, and maybe fill in the gaps I failed to mention.

Why the world has brought me to blogspot

Hello world. This is Darth Vader. And no luke is not my son. That was all framed thanks to some guy named George Lucas, whoever that is.

I must let the world know that blogspot is the beginning of the end of me. I am here to let you all know all the fun things that happen in the life of the one and only DVD. I must warn you, it may be boring, sometimes blunt, rude, funny, stupid, or a bunch on nonsense that really makes no sense but you keep reading it. I also am not an owner of a camera, so pictures will be few and far between.

Well world. Here I am.

Get ready for the DVD blogging experience.
